Zürs is a small, exclusive hamlet just up the road from Lech, sitting even higher and sharing the same vast Arlberg ski area. The village sits at 1,717m and the skiing tops out at 2,446m, and the season runs December to April. On the piste it is a real strength for strong skiers.

Who Zürs suits, and who it suits less
Best for
- Off piste. The Arlberg has more than 200 kilometres of deep snow routes, we measure about 40 kilometres of off piste itinerary around Zürs, and a guide opens it up.
- Couples. Zürs is a tiny village of elegant hotels on the Flexen Pass, where the tourist office says every hotel is ski in ski out, so couples get quiet, exclusive days.
- Fine dining. Zürs is a village of gourmet hotel dining, and Gault Millau has called the Albona Nova's restaurant Austria's smallest and finest.
- Mileage chasers. The Flexenbahn links Zürs with Stuben and St. Anton, and the Ski Arlberg pass covers about 300 kilometres of runs, the White Ring through Lech included.
Less good for
- Value for money. Zürs is one of the smartest resorts in the Alps, so anyone on a tight budget will find better value in a bigger, less exclusive village.
- Beginners. Families with beginners may prefer Lech, a few minutes down the road, which has more facilities than this small village of hotels.
- Non skiers. Zürs is about skiing and its hotels, with little in the way of shops or village life, so non skiers will spend time on the bus to Lech.

The skiing
The terrain on the doorstep is excellent and rarely crowded, and the famous Weisser Ring circuit passes straight through. Snow reliability here is outstanding given the altitude.
The village and the evenings
There is little more than a handful of smart hotels, which keeps Zürs peaceful and private. It is a place for skiing and quiet evenings rather than nightlife.
Getting there
Innsbruck is about an hour and a half away, with Zurich a comfortable alternative.
