Is Adelboden right for you?
Adelboden is a traditional Bernese village with a big, sunny ski area that links to neighbouring Lenk. The village sits at 1,350m and the skiing tops out at 2,200m, and the season runs December to April. On the piste it is a real strength for improvers moving from blue into red and confident intermediates. The pass covers 188km. From the village you can ski 85km without getting on a bus.

Who Adelboden suits, and who it suits less
Best for
- Families with young children. Engstligenalp, a high plateau reached by cable car, has gentle slopes and a family atmosphere, and the region adds sledging parks and a children's adventure park.
- Non skiers. A walkers' pass covers the pedestrian lifts and cable cars, so non skiers can reach the huts, sledge runs and winter walks with the rest of the group.
- Families with teenagers. Teenagers who love freestyle have the Gran Masta Park, with kickers, rails and boxes, and the January World Cup weekend fills the village with racing fans.
Less good for
- Mileage chasers. The main linked area, Lenk included, has 85 kilometres of piste, and the region's other areas need a bus, so some days start with a ride.
- Après. Evenings are relaxed at the ski bars and in the village, apart from the World Cup weekend in January, so party groups will find it quiet.

The resort's own sector table totals 188km across five areas that are not all joined: the main Adelboden-Lenk domain is 85km, and Betelberg, Elsigen-Metsch, Engstligenalp and Tschentenalp sit outside it. Lenk itself IS lift-connected to Adelboden via Stand-Xpress and Hahnenmoos; it is Lenk's Betelberg that needs a bus. Quoting 'almost 200km' without that sentence overstates a guest's week by about 2.2x.

The skiing
The terrain is broad and mostly intermediate, with enough variety to keep a mixed group happy across the linked areas. It is a comfortable, unshowy place to ski.
The village and the evenings
The village keeps its chalet charm and a genuine local feel, with good restaurants and a relaxed evening scene. It is quieter than the big names and better for it.
Getting there
Fly to Geneva, just under three hours away, or to Zurich, about two and a half hours. Bern is closer, but it has no regular direct flights from the UK, so it is not where we would start.
