A snowy sleeper resort in the middle of Switzerland.
Andermatt has quietly become one of the most interesting resorts in the Alps, thanks to heavy snowfall and a major investment that has smartened up the village and linked the ski areas. It is a favourite of powder hunters and those in the know.
Know the mountain before you go.
The skiing
The Gemsstock is the serious mountain, with steep off piste that gets tracks late, while the linked Sedrun side offers gentler cruising. The snow record here is genuinely excellent.
The village and the evenings
The old village core still feels authentic, now sitting alongside a new pedestrian quarter with hotels and restaurants. It blends heritage and polish.
Getting there
Zurich is only about an hour and a half away, making Andermatt one of the more convenient Swiss options.
