Is Laax right for you?
Laax, together with Flims and Falera, forms a large, modern area that has become the spiritual home of snowboarding and freestyle in Europe. The village sits at 1,100m and the skiing tops out at 2,968m, and the season runs December to April. On the piste it is a real strength for improvers moving from blue into red and confident intermediates.

Who Laax suits, and who it suits less
Best for
- Families with teenagers. Laax calls itself the leading freestyle resort in the Alps, with more than 90 obstacles across its snowparks, an Olympic size kicker line and a huge halfpipe.
- Snow sure. We measure 72 percent of the piste above 1,800 metres, and the skiing reaches 2,968 metres up towards the Vorab glacier.
- Mileage chasers. The shared area of Flims, Laax and Falera has 216 kilometres of slopes, about 40 of them ski routes, served by 30 lifts.
- Off piste. We measure about 28 kilometres of off piste itinerary, and experienced skiers can ride down the back of the Vorab glacier to Alp Ruschein.
- Families with young children. There are three Snow Wonderlands for children, at Foppa above Flims, at the base station in Laax and by the observatory in Falera.
Less good for
- Couples. Laax's main base is modern and built around the lifts, so couples wanting a traditional, chocolate box village should look at quieter Falera or elsewhere.
- Après. Après centres on the Laax Murschetg base with a young freestyle crowd, while Flims and Falera stay quiet, so big nights are not spread through the villages.

The top is high, but the village sits at 1,100m, so in a warm March the bottom runs go first.
Who should look elsewhere
If you are booking for late March or Easter
A higher village is the safer bet. St. Moritz sits at 1,822m and Arosa sits at 1,775m.
Know the mountain before you go.
The skiing
Beyond the parks there is a genuinely big mountain, with long runs, a glacier and plenty for skiers and boarders of every level. The freestyle scene is world class, with one of the largest halfpipes anywhere.
The village and the evenings
The base areas have a young, contemporary feel, with striking architecture and a lively but not laddish crowd. It looks and feels different to the traditional Alpine resort.
