Who Saint-Martin-de-Belleville suits, and who it suits less
Best for
- Families with young children. The lifts, the ESF and the shops sit together in the village centre, with Club Piou Piou from three and sledging at Les Grangeraies for days off.
- Mileage chasers. A gondola and a chairlift from the centre put you on the edge of the Three Valleys, and the wider pass opens 600 kilometres across seven resorts.
- Food lovers. Mountain restaurants line the runs above the village, farm tommes are sold in the village, and Thursday snowshoe fondue dinners end with a torchlit walk down.
- Fine dining. La Bouitte, in the hamlet of Saint Marcel, holds two Michelin stars, and the same house runs a mountain bistro in the village.
- Couples. Evenings are about dinner rather than dancing in a real village of stone and wood chalets around a church, with twenty two hamlets scattered up the valley.
Less good for
- Après. Après is quiet and good, with hotel bars and a wine bar but no nightclub, so party seekers should head up the valley to Les Menuires or Val Thorens.
- Beginners. The snowpark, the boardercross and the beginner fun zones are all on the Les Menuires side, so first timers wanting fun zones in the village will have to travel.

The village and the evenings
The stone church, the narrow lanes and a clutch of excellent restaurants make it a favourite with people who care about eating well. It feels like a village first and a ski resort second.
